Applying From Within The United States For Change Of Status
  • If you want to become a student and were lawfully admitted into the United States with a non-immigrant Visa and if that status is still valid and if you have committed no crimes then you may make application to become a student at Taylor Business Institute and apply for a change of status to F-1.

    The following requirements must be met to complete this process.

    Step No. 1     Contact the International Student Advisor, Rashed Jahangir, at Taylor Business Institute.

    Step No. 2    You must apply to the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) for change of status prior to expiration of your previous status.

    Step No. 3    Provide the additional documents as listed below:


    Additional Documents: All International Students

    The following documents must be received from all international students prior to admission to Taylor Business Institute for the issuance of  I-20:
  • Photocopy of passport with I-94
  • I-797 (if applicable)
  • Evidence of high school graduation
  • Evidence of sufficient funds or I-134
  • School Application fee $250.00 (non refundable)

Once Taylor Business Insitute receives all the documents for the issuance of I-20 Taylor Business Institute will issue the I-20.  Then apply for change of status to Department of Homeland Security with all proper documents and fees.

Persons from Abroad who Typically Cannot Apply for F-1 Status are:

1.    Persons who are subject to the J-1 two-year restriction of home country residence.
2.    K-1 status holders: the fiance’ of a US citizen who enters into the U.S. holding  a K-1 visa may not apply for a change to F-1 status.
3.    Visa Waiver Pilot Program visitors: This program exempts certain non-immigrant from the requirement of obtaining a visa for entry into the United States. A Visa Waiver Pilot Plan Visitor may not change his status to F-1 status in the U.S.
4.    C status holders: Any alien holding a C transit visa cannot apply for F-1 status
5.    Transit visitors without visas: Visitors who are in transit in the U.S. without a visa cannot apply for F-1 status.  For more information visit http://www.uscis.gov/
